Indian Institutes of Technology Association of Greater New England (IIT AGNE) is a charitable organization dedicated to engaging in and supporting charitable educational and scientific research activities. It was incorporated by by a group of engineering and technical professionals that were initially drawn together due to their common educational foundation from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and residing in the Greater New England area including the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont. IIT AGNE is a membership organization, with membership open to any person who supports its goals.
Realizing the strong role that key alumni from the IITs have played in the science, technology and academic fields in the US and with the strong ties to their fellow alumni and institutions, the organization also seeks to leverage the successes of their peers to serve as role models and exemplars in the STEM fields.
Drawing on their own background and experience in the STEM fields and realizing the importance of STEM education and awareness for the future of the country, the IIT Community in New England has chartered this organization to work within the greater New England community
- to help raise awareness of the importance of STEM education and careers within the economy
- to encourage and provide education and career development in the STEM fields
- to provide opportunities to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences and encourage social and cultural interaction between members and supporters of the organization and the larger community that encourages interest in STEM
- to facilitate assimilation into the local community for recent immigrants from India and other places who might have recently moved to the New England region.
